As part of the multilingual development program and the scientific seminar «Infectious Diseases in Asia, Africa and Latin America: Modern Challenges and Approaches» an engaging and informative lecture was held for students of the Medical Institute.
The event on the topic «From Theory to Practice in Infection: Understand, Diagnose, Treat, Contain» was delivered by invited speaker Professor Qiang Li, Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Shandong University (China).

Professor elaborated on the key principles of infectious disease control, which form the cornerstone of modern epidemiology:
• Infection source control: The importance of surveillance systems for early detection, methods for managing contacts (quarantine, observation, vaccination), as well as strategies regarding pathogen carriers and infected animals.
• Interruption of transmission routes: The professor emphasized that this involves a comprehensive set of measures aimed at blocking the spread of infection and detailed the role of sterilization as one of the most critical tools.

The lecture was supported by visual materials demonstrating how the structure of disease prevalence has changed over the past century. The audience saw how improvements in living conditions, nutrition, hygiene, and the development of vaccine prophylaxis have led to infectious diseases being replaced by chronic diseases as the leading causes of mortality.
This scientific seminar provided an excellent opportunity for future RUDN physicians to deepen their knowledge in global health, gain international experience, and pose questions to a recognized expert from China. Such events strengthen scientific ties and prepare the medical community to address modern challenges in infectology.
