Learning from international faculty is not just a principle — it’s a reality for students at the RUDN Medical Institute. Nicholas Ekoh Tomford, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Medical Biochemistry, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Coast (Ghana), has arrived in Moscow from Cape Coast.

The visiting colleague came to Russia as a participant in RUDN’s academic mobility program. The project aims to strengthen the university’s brand and develop international ties — and when it comes to medicine and biochemistry, geographical boundaries simply disappear.

Nicholas Ekoh Tomford’s visit program is packed. On his first day, the guest familiarized himself with the modern material and technical facilities of the institute. He then delivered a series of lectures and practical sessions to medical students.

«I found the masterclass on Genomics and Precision Medicine in Infectious Disease to be both fascinating and highly educational. It significantly enhanced our understanding of how cutting-edge genomic technologies, such as next-generation sequencing and pathogen genome analysis, are now being applied to improve the accuracy of diagnostics, strengthen disease prevention strategies, and tailor treatments to individual patients based on their genetic makeup and the specific pathogen involved. The session was delivered clearly and engagingly, with strong practical relevance to today’s evolving medical landscape, including applications in antimicrobial resistance and outbreak monitoring. I truly appreciate the effort in organizing such a valuable, thought-provoking, and inspiring lecture.» — Abdi Ima, General Medicine student

«I particularly found this lecture very interesting because I learned about the different strains/subtypes of common pathogens, why a particular population can be more severely affected by a disease outbreak compared to other populations, and the clinical significance of studying genomics in Infectious Diseases.

I also learned why it’s important to explain consent forms well to patients before they sign them, and the ethical issues concerning genomic data.« — Fanibi Ayomide Emmanuel, General Medicine student

The visit of the Ghanaian professor is further proof that RUDN University remains true to its core mission: to be a truly international university.
