TAKING SMALL STEPS TO BIG SCIENCE

Students of Foreign Languages Department of RUDN Institute of Medicine took part in the 5th All-Russian Student Scientific and Practical Conference «Actual Issues of Intercultural Communication». They presented reports on cross-cultural interaction between a doctor and a patient within medical discourse.

The 5th All-Russian Student Scientific and Practical Conference «Actual Issues of Intercultural Communication» was held in RUDN Universityon 20th April, 2022. Students of Foreign Languages Department, RUDN Institute of Medicine took part in the conference presenting their reports on communication issues and doctor-patient interaction within global medical discourse. The conference proceedings were published shortly after the conference.

Students of General Medicine Naris M. Abdullaeva, Diana A. Tretyakova, Maria A. Konstantinova devoted their research «Cross-cultural communication between a doctor and a patient» to key features of intercultural communication. Students of General Medicine Anastasia V. Pilipenko and Kristina A. Kurashkinas in their article «Features of intercultural communication in medicine» paid attention to cross-cultural communication between representatives of different nationalities within medical discourse. As a result of the study the authors came to the conclusion that doctors’ knowledge of the intercultural communication basics is essential in the treatment and reduces communication failures.

For most students writing and publishing articles within the Conference was the first experience.
